The purpose of the Friesian Lakes project is to reinforce the Friesian economy. This goes hand-in-hand with reinforcement of the quality of nature and the landscape. A sustainable working method is an important precondition in all activities of the Friesian Lakes project .

Waste water collection

What could be nicer than enjoying your surroundings and taking a refreshing dip on a hot summer day, while sailing around the Frisian waters? In order to ensure that you can continue to do so in the future, we must work together at keeping our surface water clean.

As a recreational sailor, you too can contribute to improving the water quality. Simply by storing your toilet water on board and disposing of it at special collection points. Since 1 January 2009, there is a prohibition on discharge of toilet water from pleasure craft. A specific campaign 'Stop Discharge of Waste water' has been developed in cooperation with the water board, De Marrekrite and the Water sports Association to inform the general public about the possibilities and effects of waste water collection.

New waste water system

The province of Fryslân has provided a generous subsidy to contribute to further development of a new waste water system. It is a full-service solution to collect waste water personally per mooring, and to discharge it into the sewer. Sustainable and innovative waste water systems have already (and are being) installed at various locations. The current plans are to install such systems at the Houkesleat and Heecher Wâl overnight moorings in the near future.
