Water has always been an important driving force for economic development in Fryslân. That is why the Friesian Lakes project is working at larger and more attractive sailing areas. The most important sailing areas are now connected to each other all year round, through construction of aqueducts and higher bridges.

Projects

A core task of the Frisian Lakes project is an attractive, accessible and easily navigable water sports area. A great deal of work has already been done. Onshore too, the Frisian Lakes project has been very productive. Shorelines have been strengthened, extra footpaths and cycle paths built, bridges and locks are more navigable and aqueducts have been constructed. The Frisian Lakes project comprises two phases, the first of which is complete. Phase two is underway and will last until 2015.
